Perceval meets the Fisher King on the shore of a river

La petite histoire :

Alors qu’il cherche un moyen de traverser une profonde rivière avec son cheval, Perceval rencontre deux hommes sur une barque. Ceux-ci lui expliquent qu’il n’y a pas de pont ni de gué à des lieues à la ronde et qu’il ne pourra donc pas traverser de sitôt. Le personnage à l’avant de la barque lui indique en revanche le chemin de sa propriété, où il l’invite à passer la nuit. Perceval se rendra compte le soir même que ce personnage n’est autre que le « Roi Pêcheur », un roi qui fut blessé jadis, au point de perdre l’usage de ses jambes, et dont la pêche reste l’un des seuls loisirs. Mais surtout, c’est dans le château de ce Roi Pêcheur que Perceval verra le Graal pour la première fois.

The little story :

While looking for a way to cross a deep river with his horse, Perceval encounters two men on a boat. They explain to him that there is no bridge or ford for miles around and that he will therefore not be able to cross anytime soon. The man at the front of the boat, on the other hand, shows him the way to his property, where he invites him to spend the night. Perceval will realize the same evening that this character is none other than the "Fisher King", a king who was injured in the past, to the point of losing the use of his legs, and whose fishing remains one of the only leisure. But above all, it is in the castle of this Fisher King that Perceval will see the Grail for the first time.
